Our Fall Issue of Magpie Times: Barn Quilts
We’re gearing up for our September issue of Magpie Times: Barn Quilts, and we’ve already received many articles and gallery pieces. Our deadline for submissions is August 1, giving us enough time for the layout and printing. Do you have a quilt or quilt rug story or gallery piece you’d like to share? All contributors receive a free digital copy of the magazine, and our everlasting thanks!
Here are some of the highlights of what has come in so far:
A charming Sheep Short Story with a miniature “stage,” complete with needle-felted sheep characters, tiny knitted sweaters, and rug hooked décor by Rebecca Martin of Story Teller Wool.
A denim quilt project by Colleen Tiefenthal, using her many creative arts: painting, embroidery, layering, proddy, and more.
A retrospective of Chéticamp rug hooker Bella Le Fort, written by her grandniece, Betty Ann Cormier.
The extraordinary quilting artistry of Julia Muench.
Little “quilts and critters” from the creative hand of Mary Johnson.
A “brick and mortar” feature by Ruth Hunter of Just Jennifer’s, “a creative refuge, a teaching studio, a fiber arts boutique, and a joyful meeting place for artists and kindred spirits.”
As you will see, quilts and quilt-inspired projects and stories are welcome for our fall issue, but by no means all we’d like to see. What is inspiring you now? What do the coming autumn changes bring to mind in your creative life? Magpie Times is a place where we share all manner of fiber arts. You’ll never know who you will inspire with your piece!
If you have an idea for an article or gallery piece, but need a little more time, just let us know. We’ll save a space for you, or if we can’t get it all in this issue, we’ll find another place for your contribution. We’d love to see articles with photos, or gallery pieces where you might share a paragraph or so about your project. We also enjoy recipes and games!
How to submit an article or gallery piece?
Send your work to magpietimesmagazine@gmail.com. It’s preferred if you can submit text documents and photos separately (no PDFs please). If your photos should appear in a certain place in the text, go ahead and indicate that in the writing, and identify the photos so it’s clear where you want them to go. Please include the title of each piece, who designed it, who (hooked/quilted/felted etc.) the piece, and your location in the world (city, state/province). We can’t wait to see what you’re working on now!
The September 2025 issue of Magpie Times: Barn Quilts will be released on September 17, but is available for pre-order now.
