Featured Rug of the Month--
September 2007
Primitive Floral  17"x20"
Designed and hooked by Joanne Fajack

Joanne designed and hooked this rug using wool yarn on monk's cloth and an Oxford #10 punch hook.  Her approach to rug hooking is very individual; she takes in images all around her, and combines her ideas with each design.  She brings together her own charming colors, and "paints" her designs with yarn.  She primarily shows her rugs in one juried show per year, which keeps her busy all year long.

Joanne's interest in rug hooking led her to teaching and selling her hand made creations. Eventually this grew into a business, including wholesale shows, but this proved too overwhelming for her "one man band" operation, so she returned to the one-on-one sales, kits and supplies, custom design work, and a having her creations in a few local shops.  Now you can view the whole range of Joanne's creative creations (including this lovely featured rug) at www.myprimitivehome.com.

"I have been doing folk art dolls and bears for quite a few years besides the hooked rugs.  Making rugs has become my passion and now has become my most loveable pasttime.  I couldn't do without creating and designing the rugs.  Age will not play a part in this part of my life and until I can't move a muscle or a finger I will continue to hook and hope and pray that God gives me many years of more time to do this for my love for this craft of art is far too important for me to stop anytime soon.  It has become a big part of living, and everyday my mind is working towards a new idea or a new design.  Colors and dyeing now has become a challenge as well.  So on to a new design for tomorrow's a new day!"
