Featured Rug of the Month
December 2007
"I was so excited when the kit arrived.  I had hooked with fabric in the past, but had no idea what the yarn would be like!  It is so much nicer than I could have imagined.  The texture, lustre and colors really are what attract people to it when they see it for the first time.

Judy's choice of colors surprised me.  When I first saw the colors I thought it wouldn't work, but as I hooked, I was facinated with just how great they looked.  I started hooking and just couldn't stop.  Because there had been lots of yarn left, I extended the edges of the pattern out and gave it a border with all the colors in it.  By the next day I had it done and was ready to make it into a chair cushion.

I sewed a couple of rows of zigzag on the burlap, as close as possible to the outside edge row of hooking, to keep the burlap from fraying.  I cut out the backing from an old wool blanket.  If I would have taken my time, I think I should have added a corded edge, but I was in a hurry to be finished, so I sewed it together.  I cut a small whole in the back of the blanket fabric and pulled it right side out and stuffed in a thin layer of foam.  I didn't even stitch the hole shut, but placed it on my spinning chair.  I'm learning to spin and hope that someday I will be able to spin yarn that I can hook with.

I'd like to thank Judy for her lovely pattern and wool in the kit "Primitive Flowers."  This project really gave me a feeling of success and I'm encouraged to continue with my spinning and hooking.  Maybe I should tackle a set of chair cushions for the kitchen!"
