Pot Luck Penny Pillows, 12"x12"
Designed and hooked by Judy Taylor
Penny Rugs go back to the dawn of crafting. You see these designs on quilts, felt rugs, hooked rugs, in a myriad of styles and variations. Basically they are a super-easy way to make use of leftovers from other projects. But because they are useful makes them no less charming. Absolutely anything goes, no color could be "wrong." If you wanted to make penny rugs in a certain color scheme (to match a room for example) that would be great, but the old faithful "pot luck" variety seem to just go with everything.
They also happen to be terrific beginner projects, since the hooking is so easy (very little detail), but they also allow the hooker to experiment with many different yarns and fabric strips. I have created the Pot Luck Penny Pillow kit as a perfect starter kit for someone who is just learning about rug hooking, or has hooked with fabric strips but is curious what all the yarn hookers are working with and excited about. These kits include samples of all of the many types of yarn that I like to hook with; handspun, hand-dyed, many commercial brands, and even some fabric strips so you can try that technique as well.
I should warn you however, "the Surgeon General warns that hooking penny pillows is very addicting and beneficial to your mental health!" Click here for more info about Penny Rugs!
