Featured Rug of the Month-- June
Two versions of a free pattern insert from Rug Hooking Magazine, 17"x20"
Hooked by Marie Kelly
"I used Lopi wool yarn, it is the only yarn I can find locally to do so. When I couldn't purchase the colors I wanted, I dyed them myself, thus the pink tulips...
The pattern is one published in one of the Rug Hooking Magazines. (editor's note: every issue of Rug Hooking Magazine comes with a free pattern insert, which is available for personal use) The finished piece is 17"x20". I made the one with the green background for myself, but my daughter just loved it and claimed it before it was finished, so that is why the 2nd one is done with different colors for myself.
To hang them I put a dowel in the back. I wrapped the unfinished backing material around the dowel at the top.
This is my first stab at punch needle work, and I just loved it. I found it very therapeutic and a nice break from traditional rug hooking that I enjoy so much. The punch needle is a 1/4" Oxford needle, and I purchased the Amy Oxford "Punch Needle Rug Hooking Techniques and Designs" book, and it told me everything I needed to know to get started. I asked my husband to build me the frame, and it works great. It is certainly handy to have a talented husband to assist with these crafts!"
