Featured Rug of the Month-- February 2007
Jobu and Simon  25"x28"
Designed and hooked by Michele Wise
Jobu and Simon are littermates, and lifelong companions.  According to Michele, you never see them apart from one another.  They always seem to be touching each other in some way, especially when they are sleeping.  Simon was the "runt" of the litter, always smaller than his brother, but certainly no less lovable!  Both fellows are getting up there in age, and this rug commemorates their mark on their family's life.

Michele designed and hooked this rug, using recycled and new wool fabric strips on a linen backing.  She dyed the wool herself, and hooked the rug using #4 cut strips.  Michele had to experiment with the background until she was satisfied.  She was aiming for an art-deco kind of a look, but her first attempt was too bold and distracted from the dogs, so she experimented until she came up with a muted effect, that set the boys off nicely.

She started this project in September, and finished it in December-- pretty quick work!

Do you have a rug you would like to have featured on this website?  If so e-mail me!  It can be a rug you've made, found in an antique store, or been handed down to you through the generations.  Every rug has a story, and we love to hear about them.  If your rug is featured, you will receive your choice of a copy of my book, "Hooking With Yarn" or a free yard of linen, so let me know!  For a look at previous rugs that have been featured, visit our archive!
