The following is a list of regular classes that I teach, but I also can create a special class for any group, just let me know what you have in mind!
"Beginning Traditional Rug Hooking"
This class gets back to basics, the real origins of the art. Each student will hook a pillow-top, using both yarn and fabric strips, both techniques will be taught. In addition, how to finish a rug, care and cleaning, and tips on designing your own rugs will also be covered. Class is three hours and cost is approximately $45 per student.
"Beginning Rug Hooking-- Hooking a Sampler"
This is the basic beginning class. Each participant can choose from a variety of kit designs and try their hand at rug hooking a small sampler. All the basics for hooking rugs are covered. This class is ideal for beginners, especially kids. Class is three hours, and cost is approximately $20 per student.
"Primitive Rug Hooking"
Learn several methods of dyeing yarn and hooking to create primitive rugs like the pioneers made. Each student will hook a primitive flower mat, and dyeing techniques will be demonstrated. Class is three hours and cost is approximately $45 per student.
"Beginning Rug Hooking-- Hooking Whimsical Sheep Ornaments"
Learn the art of rug hooking while making four whimsical sheep Christmas ornamens (as featured in the Sept. 2003 issue of SpinOff Magazine). All the basics of rug hooking will be covered as well as the finishing techniques for the ornaments. Each student will receive a kit to make four sheep ornaments and a rug hook (if you need one). Class is three hours, cost is approximately $30 per student.
"Dyeing to Hook"
Discover the rug hooker's secret for designing many different styles of rugs-- it's in the dyepot! Many essential dyeing techniques will be demonstrated, including dip dyeing for realistic shading, and variegated dyeing for primitive rug hooking. Class is three hours and cost is approximately $10 per student.
"Hooking in 3-D-- Hooking a Teddy Bear"
In this class we cover all the basics of rug making, plus the added technique of hooking in "3-D". Each participant will learn to hook and assemble a totally unique mini-Teddy Bear, and be encouraged to personalize their own special bear with various techniques. Some of these bears competed in our "Miss Abearica Contest 2007". Class is three hours and cost is approximately $40 per student.
"Intermediate Rug Hooking-- Realistic Shading"
A variety of shading techniques will be taught in this class, including dip-dyeing, successive dyeing and fingering to create realistic shading. This class is ideal for those who have had some rug hooking experience, but would like an introduction to the wonderful world of shading. Each student will receive an Alpaca kit with hand-dyed yarn and a hook (if you need one). Class is three hours and cost is approximately $30 per student.
