Andrea Rheinlander is a watercolor artist, who recently discovered rug hooking and dyeing wool. She fell in love with dyeing fibers, and used that skill to adapt her paintings to rug designs. Andrea's designs are truely unique, because she paints them right on the linen, in full color, so color planning is never a problem.
She draws and paints her designs, one at a time, using permanent color on 100% linen, so they are washable and durable. Because she makes them to order, she is always willing to customize the design.
Here are some of Andrea's tips on hooking the Sunflower rug:
"When using variegated wool, separate or cut the lights & darks. For example, when using a single strand consider if you can work your lighter colors together for highlights on petals, leaves, etc. Do not be afraid to mix blues or purples into the shadows in the leaves. This will give your piece more depth. Lastly, stand several feet away from your piece every so often. You will be amazed to see how differently your work looks from a distance!
More importantly, have fun!
Don't create a rug... create a work of art!"
